History
The village's origins date back to the destruction of Semifonte by the Florentines in 1202, and its development was mainly linked to its location on the Strada Regia Romana that connected Florence with Rome. This gave rise to the Tafani family, known as Barberini, who achieved great success in Florence and later in Rome, with Pope Urban VIII and numerous cardinals.
The Cappugi Heraldic Code 623 depicts an image of the Barberino family coat of arms. This emblem consisted of a shield "azure, with a majestic tiger's trunk, gold, coming out of the left side of the shield" and is the first evidence of the tiger figure that Count Passerini took up for the compilation of his blazonry during the Italian Unification.
