Physical Geography
Territory
Turin is located in a plain delimited by three rivers: the Stura di Lanzo, the Sangone, and the Po, which flows through the city from south to north. The city also overlooks several Alpine valleys such as the Val di Susa, which connects the city with France through the Frejus tunnels, the Lanzo Valleys, and the Val Sangone.

History
Foundation and Transformation into a Roman Colony
Turin has a two-thousand-year history and was founded around the 3rd century BC by the Taurini. After the Ostrogoth domination, it was transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus with the name "Iulia Augusta Taurinorum" in the 1st century BC.
Duchy of Turin and House of Savoy
Subsequently, Turin became the capital of an important Duchy of Turin before passing under the nominal lordship of the House of Savoy in the 11th century. In 1563, it became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy.
Capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia and the Kingdom of Italy
From 1720, Turin was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia until it became the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
International Events in Turin
Turin has been the site of numerous international events, such as the International Exhibition of 1911, the XX Winter Olympics in 2006, the ATP Finals since 2021, and the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
Economy
Turin is the third Italian municipality in terms of industrial production economy, along with Milan and Genoa, it constituted the industrial triangle during the years of the "Italian Economic Miracle." It is the hub of the Italian automotive industry, but it also stands out for publishing, banking/insurance, information technology, cinema, food and wine, space (astronomy), industrial design, sports, fashion, and artificial intelligence.
Culture
UNESCO World Heritage Sites
In the territory of Turin, there are areas and buildings included in two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: some palaces and areas belonging to the circuit of the Savoy Residences in Piedmont (World Heritage Site) and the Po Hills area (Biosphere Reserve).
University, Art, Tourism, Science, and Culture
Turin is one of the major centers of higher education, art, tourism, science, and culture in Italy. In fact, it is home to numerous universities and music conservatories, as well as having a great artistic and cultural tradition.
Global City
The constant growth in importance at the international level has brought Turin to the rank of a global city (the third Italian city after Milan and Rome) in the "Gamma" category.
