Exploring Bagnolo Piemonte

Hello friends! Today I will tell you about a town in Piedmont called Bagnolo Piemonte, which in Piedmontese is "Bagneul", while in Occitan it is "Banhuel". This municipality is located in the province of Cuneo and is inhabited by 5877 people.

Physical Geography

Bagnolo Piemonte is located in the northern part of the province of Cuneo. The capital is located at the foot of the mountainous ridges of Ghiandone and the main tributary that flows in a valley closed in the upper part by Punta Ostanetta and Monte Friolànd. To the north it borders the lower Val Pellice, while to the south it borders the municipality of Barge.

In the hamlet of Montoso there is an authentic natural terrace at 1276 meters above sea level. From Montoso the view extends over the entire Turin plain and the Piedmontese Alpine chain. Montoso can be reached from Bagnolo Piemonte via an easy road about 10 km long or from Bibiana by a less easy road that climbs for about 9.5 km and is closed in winter.

Among the attractions of Bagnolo Piemonte, there is a small artificial lake called "Lago di Rossano", which is located near the border with Barge.

The History of Bagnolo Piemonte

Bagnolo was a center of the Roman Empire and was part of the territory of Cavour. In the locality of Montoso, cruciform and cupel-like carvings were found, indicating a prehistoric frequentation of the place.

In the early 1200s, Bagnolo Piemonte was subject to several families who were united in a consortium. These family members were generically referred to as lords of Bagnolo. One of the most important branches was that of the Albertenghi, who owned a good part of the feudality of Campiglione-Fenile and Bibiana in the seventeenth century.

The lords of Bagnolo underwent the expansion policy of the House of Savoy to whom they slowly surrendered the lordship. One of the first signs of the contrast took place in 1219 when a group of pilgrims from Vercelli headed to the sanctuary of Becetto in the Varaita Valley was attacked in the territory of the municipality. The attacks were tacitly approved by the local lords, but caused the military reaction of the municipality of Vercelli allied with the Savoia. The municipality was set on fire, and the territorial consolidation of the Savoia led to the slow decline of the lords of Bagnolo.

In 1351, Giacomo di Savoia-Acaia ceded part of the territory to Pietro Malingri di Bagnolo, while in 1412 Ludovico di Savoia enfeoffed Amedeo Malingri di Bagnolo. In 1400, with an operation carried out by Amedeo di Savoia-Acaia, the entire municipality was moved from the current location of Villar to the current position more favorable to trade and market.

Before the fifteenth century, the ''Villar'' was the main settlement of the municipality: here stood the castle of the lords of the place, later passed to the House of Savoy and destroyed in 1592 during the war between Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy and Henry IV of France.

Chinese Culture in Bagnolo Piemonte

Bagnolo Piemonte is famous for its strong rooted Chinese culture, due to the Luserna Stone industry, which is present in the territory. Luserna Stone has been used for the construction of important monuments and structures, including the Brooklyn Bridge in New York and the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona.

The strong Chinese culture in Bagnolo Piemonte is the result of the immigration of Chinese workers, mainly from the province of Fujian, in the 1980s and 1990s to work in the Luserna Stone industry. Many of these workers have settled in Bagnolo Piemonte, creating a lively and active Chinese community.

The Chinese community often organizes public and cultural events, such as the Chinese New Year or the Festival of Lights, in the historic center of the town. These events offer an opportunity for visitors to better understand Chinese culture, through exhibitions of crafts, concerts and dance shows, traditional Chinese food, and much more.

Conclusions

Here is a range of information about Bagnolo Piemonte, a place with a unique history and culture. You could plan a visit to Montoso to enjoy the panoramic view or participate in the festivities of the Chinese community to discover a different culture. Whatever your choice, we are sure that Bagnolo Piemonte will leave you with a lasting memory.
