Bagnatica

A tour of Bagnatica: discovering its territory

Hello friends, today I'm taking you on a journey of discovery to Bagnatica, an Italian municipality with 4,473 inhabitants located in Lombardy, in the province of Bergamo. The town is situated on the last hills of the Val Cavallina, at the foot of Mount Tomenone, about 10 kilometers east of Bergamo.

Territory and morphology

The main morphological characteristic of the territory of Bagnatica is the hilly system that develops from Seriate to Montello, following a direction from Northeast to Southwest. This system consists of three hills separated by two large saddles: the hill of Comonte located on the western edge, the hill of Brusaporto in the central position, and the hill of Bagnatica-Montello in the western zone, which is the largest and highest in terms of altitude.

The flat portion of the territory is mainly used for agriculture thanks to the presence of streams such as Borgogna and the Zerra River, which give rise to several minor streams.

Bagnatica: nature, geology and itineraries.

Geology

From a geological point of view, the territory of Bagnatica is interesting because it allows the reconstruction of the environments and sedimentation conditions of a particular geological period, in this case the Cretaceous. Thanks to the formation of Pontida, the Sarnico sandstone, the Sirone conglomerate, and the noble stone of Credaro, it is possible to reconstruct the Cretaceous sedimentation conditions.

Itineraries

But now let's move on to the best part: the itineraries! Bagnatica offers several paths immersed in nature, including the walk that leads to the Tower on the hill of San Giovanni Battista, in the municipality of Costa di Mezzate. This walk is ideal for beautiful spring days and takes only about twenty minutes even for the less trained. Once you reach the tower, you can admire beautiful meadows overlooking the plain, from which you can enjoy an enchanting panorama.

The walk that leads to the top of Mount Tomenone and the short but suggestive climb that leads to Cascina Paradiso is also very beautiful. Both paths start from Cascina Casella.

Sacred buildings

We cannot forget the sacred buildings present in the territory of Bagnatica, including the parish church dedicated to St. John the Baptist, which possesses valuable paintings.

In short, Bagnatica is a beautiful municipality where you can spend a pleasant day in contact with nature and history. Come and discover it!
