A brief history of Badia Tedalda

The name Badia Tedalda derives from the abbey of San Benedetto founded by the Tedaldi family. In the past, the abbey was under the diocese of Città di Castello, which included the valleys of Metauro, Foglia and Marecchia. Over the centuries, the municipality has passed through various noble families, including the counts of Montedoglio and the Faggiuola, who were close to the Visconti and rivals of the Florentines. In 1440, Badia Tedalda definitively passed under the dominion of Florence. In 1860, during the plebiscite for the annexation of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany to the Kingdom of Sardinia, the "yes" votes did not obtain the majority of those entitled to vote.
