Welcome to Azzio!

We introduce you to Azzio, a small town in the province of Varese in Lombardy with a population of 743 inhabitants. The town is located on the northern slope of Mount Campo dei Fiori and is part of the Union of Middle Verbano municipalities.

History

The history of Azzio is punctuated by events that have made it unique. The coat of arms and flag of the municipality, granted by decree of the President of the Republic, magnificently represent the town. The coat of arms boasts a rainbow on a silver field that crosses a golden key, accompanied by nine green trees on the plain and three stars with six blue rays. The flag is a blue and white cut drape.

Monuments and Places of Interest

Despite its modest size, Azzio has many religious architectures worth a visit. The parish church of the Virgin Mary is equipped with a wonderful organ built in 1891 by Vincenzo Mascioni. On the outskirts of the town, on the other hand, is the church of Saint Anthony of Padua, which was once part of the convent of Santa Maria degli Angeli, of the reformed minor friars.

Society

The high cultural diversity of Azzio makes it a vibrant and exciting town. According to ISTAT data as of December 31, 2010, about 9.40% of the population were foreign nationals. The most represented nationality was Moroccan, followed by Albania, the Dominican Republic and Peru.

The organ-building company Mascioni is based in the town, a company that has gained international fame for the excellence of its products. Moreover, the town has an economy that revolves around agriculture, milk production and other commercial activities.
