Fiumicino is an Italian municipality located in the metropolitan city of Rome Capital. However, the name Fiumicino is associated with different territorial realities ranging from the province of Forlì to that of Pordenone.

But the most famous hamlet of Fiumicino is undoubtedly Rome-Fiumicino Airport. Located in the municipality of Fiumicino, the airport is the largest in Italy and one of the most important in the world.

Fiumicino Airport Station

Fiumicino Airport Station is a high-speed railway station, opened in 1990, which connects the airport to the city of Rome. It was expanded in 2018 to accommodate the Leonardo Express trains, which connect the airport to Rome Termini station in just 32 minutes.

Rome-Fiumicino Railway

The Rome-Fiumicino Railway is instead an urban railway line that connects the Ostiense district of Rome with the airport. The line was inaugurated in 1999 and has since become one of the main access routes to the airport.

Fiumicino Port

Fiumicino Port is a canal port located in the eponymous municipality. It is mainly used for fishing tourism and professional fishing. The port consists of a series of docks where the fishing boats dock and tourist wharves equipped for fishing tourism.

Finplanet Fiumicino

Finplanet Fiumicino was an Italian futsal club based in Fiumicino. Founded in 2005, the team participated in the Serie A futsal championship. Unfortunately, in 2013 it was forced to dissolve due to financial problems.

Rome Fiumicino Meteorological Station

The Rome Fiumicino Meteorological Station is a reference station for the Meteorological Service of the Italian Air Force and for the World Meteorological Organization. The station is of fundamental importance for weather forecasting in the Rome area.

Fiumicino Massacre

Finally, one cannot fail to mention the terrible Fiumicino Massacre of 1985. On that occasion, a Palestinian commando attacked Terminal T3 of Fiumicino Airport, causing the deaths of 16 people and the injury of 80 others.

In summary, Fiumicino is a symbol of Italy's transport and logistics. Its airport, with its high-speed railway station, connects the capital with the world. But Fiumicino is also a reference point for fishing and sports enthusiasts, and an important meteorological station for weather forecasting.
