Locally known as ''Athan'' or ''Azan'' in Venetian language and as ''Dassan'' or ''Daçàn di Pordenòn'' in Friulian language, Azzano Decimo has about 15,698 inhabitants and is part of the UTI Unioni Territoriali Intercomunali FVG "Sile e Meduna" with the municipalities of Chions, Fiume Veneto, Pasiano di Pordenone, Prata di Pordenone, and Pravisdomini.

Azzano Decimo is located in the western Friulian plain and is just a few kilometers from the left bank of the Meduna river. This location makes it an important passage point for commercial and industrial flows in the area. The municipality is characterized by various natural landscapes, among which stands out the ''Mantova'' forest. Here, ancient deciduous and angiospermous coniferous forests can be admired, some of which are hundreds of years old.

A brief history of Azzano Decimo

The territory of Azzano Decimo has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the archaeological sites of Fagnigola and Valer-Pezzacurta dating back to the Neolithic period. Over time, thanks to the fertility of the soil and the strategic location, Azzano was also at the center of attention of the Roman civilization. During the Middle Ages, the municipality became an important agricultural center and hosted a fortified castle owned by the noble family "di Azzano". The church of San Pietro Apostolo, suffragan of the Diocese of Concordia-Pordenone, had its seat here.

In 1861-1946, with the annexation of Azzano Decimo to the Kingdom of Italy, the adjective ''Decimo'' was added to the name of the municipality. This indicated the tenth milestone placed to mark the distance from the ancient center of Concordia Sagittaria. In 1931, the coat of arms and the banner of the municipality were granted by a royal decree.

Azzano Decimo today

Today, Azzano Decimo is an industrial municipality with a population of over 15,000 inhabitants. In 2015, the proposal to merge with the municipality of Pravisdomini was rejected by a referendum. Despite its modernity, the municipality still retains the charm of history and nature, offering visitors a variety of landscapes to discover.
