Climate

The climate in Asti is special, protected from the influences of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Precipitation is more frequent in the north and at high altitudes, while Asti receives 667 mm of annual rainfall. Summer thunderstorms tend to be few but strong, and winter is characterized by little precipitation and temperatures below the regional average.

A city with a glorious past

Asti is a place rich in history, since Roman times when it was known as Hasta. In the Middle Ages, Asti was a free municipality with the right to mint coins, becoming one of the most important commercial centers between the 12th and 13th centuries. The city was also the seat of the Duchy of Asti, a Lombard duchy of Neustria.
