The altitude of the municipality ranges from 254 meters at the Dittaino station to the summit of Monte la Stella at 906 meters. The municipality is traversed by the Dittaino river, which arises from the branches of Tavi-Bozzetta and has tributaries such as Rassuara/Murra and Orto Nocelle. The area is famous for its deposits of sulfur, alabaster, and rock salt. There are four main sources available: Acquanuova, Buffa, S. Giorgio, and Rassuara, as well as minor sources such as Gallizzi, Fontana Amara, and Zubbia.

The civic coat of arms shows an image of the Benedictines of Catania, ancient lords of Assoro, while the motto of the municipality is attributed to the great Roman orator Cicero, who cited the inhabitants of Assoro for their victory against the Roman Praetor Gaio Licinio Verre, who wanted to steal a precious statue of the god Chrisas from the local temple. The municipality's banner is a blue drape.
