Discover the Charm of Capodacqua

Hi everyone! Today, I'm going to tell you about Capodacqua, a small hamlet in the municipality of Assisi, located in the beautiful region of Umbria. If you're looking for a peaceful place to spend some relaxing days surrounded by nature and history, Capodacqua is the place for you. Let's dive straight into discovering the charm of this lovely village.

History

Capodacqua has an ancient history. During the Roman era, the area was occupied by the waters of the "lacus umber", a swamp that remained after the drainage of the prehistoric Lake Tiberino. Later, thanks to the numerous springs and water sources in the area, the hamlet took its current name. During the ground levelling works in 1997, a vast necropolis dating back to the Roman era was discovered near the church of S. Maria della Speranza.

Economy and Events

The peculiarity of the Capodacqua territory is the presence of numerous sources of drinking water, which make it ideal for the cultivation of grapes and olives. The hamlet celebrates the Feast of Saint Joseph on March 19th, during which the Sagra del lupino e della frittella (Lupine and Fritters Festival) takes place. In addition, the Cherry Festival and the Palio delle fonti (Fountain Race) are also organized in June, both of which are very interesting.

Monuments and Artistic Places

Among the most important monuments in the village, we find the Church of S. Apollinare, built on the ruins of a previous building from the Byzantine Empire era, dating back to the 6th century. The church, dating back to the 17th century, is a beautifully preserved work of art.

Life in Capodacqua

In the summer, Capodacqua offers various outdoor activities, such as excursions in the undergrowth of the Subasio Park and rafting near the Marmore Falls. In winter, the hamlet offers the opportunity to spend a few days on the ski lifts of the nearby Monte Terminillo, where it's possible to practice downhill and cross-country skiing.

Conclusions

In short, Capodacqua is a charming place for an unforgettable vacation: its history, the beauty of its monuments, and the richness of its territory in terms of water sources and typical products make it a special place. Don't miss the chance to visit this corner of paradise in Umbria!
