Arbia

Welcome to Arbia: geography and location

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to talk about Arbia, a hamlet of the municipality of Asciano, in the beautiful province of Siena, in Tuscany. Arbia is located in the val d'Arbia and on the crete senesi, along the Arbia stream. It borders the municipalities of Siena and Castelnuovo Berardenga and to the north with Taverne d'Arbia, a hamlet of Siena. In short, Arbia is in a really strategic position!

The history of Arbia

Arbia has a very interesting history. The first nucleus of the inhabited center was born in the 19th century, near the Napoleonic column at the crossroads between the road that leads from Siena to Arezzo passing through Monteaperti and the Via Lauretana. The famous bridge over the stream, which is the only road connection between Arbia and Siena, has existed since 1353! In 1787 it was replaced with a three-arched bridge by Grand Duke Leopold II of Austria-Lorraine, while in 1896 the Siena-Chiusi railway line was built and in 1898 the Arbia station was inaugurated. Thanks to the presence of the station, the hamlet was initially called "Arbia Scalo". Over time, Arbia has grown and expanded thanks to numerous urban projects and residential subdivisions.

Arbia: a Tuscan pearl between history and natural beauty.

What to visit in Arbia

Arbia has many interesting places to visit, both of a religious and civil nature. The lovely church of San Giuseppe, built in 1952, is a real gem. The diocesan complex has recently been restored and turned into a diocesan Caritas center. The Napoleonic column, the Venturini Palace, the Montieri Palace and the Monselvoli Paradise are instead splendid civil buildings that can be visited. In particular, the bridge over the Arbia stream, rebuilt after World War II, is a real attraction for tourists.

The culture of Arbia

Arbia is a very active and lively hamlet. In fact, in 1985 the elementary school "Gianni Rodari" was opened and in 1990 the nursery "Fabrizio Guerrini" was inaugurated. These are two very important schools for the local community, which allow children to receive an excellent education.

I hope you enjoyed this brief overview of Arbia! If you have the opportunity to visit this beautiful Tuscan municipality, don't miss the chance to stop by Arbia: you will definitely be enchanted by its beauty and its history.
