Pugnello

Welcome to Pugnello: a small hamlet in Veneto

Hello everyone! Today I present to you Pugnello, a beautiful hamlet in the municipality of Arzignano, in the province of Vicenza. Pugnello only has 478 inhabitants, but don't let that fool you: here you can breathe an air of tranquility and history that will leave you speechless.

The history of Pugnello

The origins of Pugnello date back to the middle of the fifteenth century when the first settlers established themselves thanks to the allocation of land by the mayor of Arzignano. Initially, the place was characterized by the presence of a place of worship known as the "church of the forest", which testifies to the importance of faith in the lives of the inhabitants of Pugnello since ancient times. From this church, which was later entrusted to the saints San Sebastiano and San Rocco, the real community of Pugnello was born.

In a will dated March 27, 1559, the expression "S. Sebastianus a Buscho" is used, confirming the existence of the ancient forest church. Legend has it that Pugnello was the only community in the area to survive the terrible plague epidemic of the sixteenth century thanks to its remoteness from the plain.

Pugnello: the village that will leave you speechless.

Monuments and places of interest

The beating heart of Pugnello is the church dedicated to San Sebastiano and San Rocco. Its construction dates back to the first half of the sixteenth century, although it is presumed that a small countryside church was already present in those places from the early years of the fifteenth century. The church is one of the most important monuments in Pugnello and a must-see for anyone who wants to discover the history and culture of this beautiful village.

But Pugnello is not just its church: here you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the last foothills of the right side of the Chiampo thanks to its position nestled between the municipalities of Nogarole Vicentino and Trissino. A walk along the forest paths will take you to discover the hidden treasures of the nature and history of Pugnello.

Conclusions

In summary, Pugnello is a small pearl of Veneto that deserves to be discovered. Here, time seems to have stopped and the peace you breathe will make you forget the stress of the city. The church of San Sebastiano and San Rocco and the surrounding nature are just some of the reasons why you should visit this village. Are you ready to go? We are waiting for you in Pugnello!
