The history of Arnasco

The history of Arnasco is very interesting and has its origins in the Roman Empire. In the past, it was a hamlet of Arveglio, which was abandoned during the 16th century. In 1236, the territory of Arnasco was divided between the Cazulini family of Albenga and the Del Carretto family. In 1321, the Bezzo Castle was built, which is still inhabited today.

The Castellania di Arnasco, Cenesi and Rivernaro remained effectively under the control of the Albenga family until 1753. Then it passed to the Costa family and maintained ownership even after the transfer of this territory to the Kingdom of Sardinia.

With the Napoleonic domination, the territories of Arnasco and Cenesi were united in a single municipality within the Department of Letimbro, with the capital city of Savona, within the Ligurian Republic. Since 1798, it has been part of the I canton, with the capital city of Albenga, of the Jurisdiction of Centa and since 1803, it has been the main center of the IV canton of Centa in the Jurisdiction of Ulivi.
