A territory of peaks and pastures

Argentera is located in the upper Stura di Demonte valley, surrounded by the most important mountains in the area, such as Monte Oserot, Enciastraia, and Rocca dei Tre Vescovi. Here you will mainly find vegetable fields, meadows, coniferous forests, larches, and mountain pines on both sides of the valley, and pastures for cattle and sheep at the foot of the rocks.

A scattered town with charming hamlets

Argentera is a scattered town, and among the hamlets you can visit are Grange, a hamlet made up of ruins that testify to the particular types of Alpine homes, Bersezio, the most populous settlement and the seat of the town hall, Ferrere, a small village with Alpine architectural style where ancient pilgrimage and migration roads passed, and finally Prinardo and Serre, two small rural hamlets.

The history and symbols of Argentera

The toponym of this town suggests that in the past there were open mines for the search and extraction of metals, including silver. According to legend, an ancient silver mine was located in the area.

The coat of arms of the town of Argentera was granted in 1987 and is characterized by a pickaxe, symbol of the work in the lead-silver mines present in the vicinity.

Social life and traditions

In addition to its breathtaking landscapes, Argentera is also known for its festivals and fairs. Among the most famous are the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, the Occitan Fair, which is held every third Sunday in August, and the Feast of the Blessed Crucifix.

Economy

Argentera is very popular among tourists and a destination for many groups who come to stay in local Alpine homes or in nearby campsites. Scout groups, including AGESCI, also often visit the town.
