Quarata: The Fraction of Arezzo

Hello everyone! Today I will tell you about Quarata, a charming fraction of Arezzo located northwest of the city center, along the Via Setteponti towards Castiglion Fibocchi. With its approximately 2,000 inhabitants, the "quaratini", it is part of the Circoscrizione 1 and represents one of the most important medieval nuclei of the municipality of Arezzo.

The Castle of Quarata and Leonardo da Vinci

According to scholar Carlo Starnazzi, the castle of Quarata was used by Leonardo da Vinci as an observation point of the surrounding landscape, which he then painted in his famous work "The Mona Lisa." This hypothesis has also been supported by other scholars. It's nice to know that our fraction may have a connection with one of the greatest artists in history!
