But Archi is not just a place of human settlement, it is also immersed in a unique natural environment. The municipality is nestled on a rocky spur that provides breathtaking views of the Aventino Valley and the Sangro River Valley, from which the mountains of the Maiella range extend upstream.

The Sangro River Valley is an important industrial area, home to major car factories such as Fiat-Sevel and Honda, as well as natural resources such as the Serranella Oasis and Lake Bomba.

Archi, between history and nature: the pearl of Abruzzo.

History

The history of Archi is very ancient, as evidenced by the remains of Fonte Tasca, which indicate that the area was inhabited since the Late Bronze Age. In the Middle Ages, it became an important fortified center along with Casoli and Roccascalegna. During this period, Archi, along with the other two towns, formed a defensive triangle that blocked the passage between the eastern Maiella and the Sangro River.

In the following years, it was owned by several families, including the Carafa, Guevara, and Pignatelli. Finally, the area became the property of the Adimari, Marquesses of Bomba. The name of the municipality changed several times, until settling only in the XVIII century as "Archi". It is believed that the name derives from the beauty of the location, in the strategic position overlooking the Sangro River.

Archi Today

Today, Archi is a small town with a predominantly medieval historical character that nevertheless produces high-quality olive oil. The oil, along with the beauty of the territory, are the strengths of the municipality.

In addition, the municipality organizes various social and cultural events, such as patron saint festivals and oil festivals.

The town offers various activities for tourists, such as nature walks, visits to olive oil cellars, and local food tastings. The historic center is a perfect place to stroll through the cobblestone streets and admire the historic buildings such as the Church of San Giovanni Battista and the Adimari Palace.
