Anzola dell'Emilia is located between the Lavino river to the east and the Samoggia (''Samûż'') river to the west. If you're here, you'll be halfway between Bologna to the east and Modena to the west. Anzola dell'Emilia is an important agricultural and industrial center of the Via Emilia. Many mechanical companies can be found here, including Fabbri and Carpigiani. You'll be surprised to know that habanero peppers are also cultivated here!

Climate

Anzola dell'Emilia holds the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded in the Po Valley. On February 15, 1956, a temperature of -26.2°C was registered!

Origin of the Name

Anzola dell'Emilia, also known as ''Anzôla'' in Western Bolognese dialects, finds its first documentary mention at the Cassinese Monastery of San Martino, located in Casale Marzano, dating back to the 8th century. Here, there was a nucleus which later became Anzola. Probably, the village took this name because the oncia, an agricultural unit of measure, was used.

History

Anzola dell'Emilia has been inhabited since the Neolithic era. Over the years, numerous archaeological artifacts belonging to the Terramare, Villanovian, and Etruscan communities have been found. Later on, the inhabitants of Anzola were active in the reclamation of stagnant waters in the area. This activity led to the realization of a large network of canals, which represented both a resource and a problem for the city.

And with this, we conclude our journey through Anzola dell'Emilia, a town rich in history and natural resources. Come and visit and discover all its wonders!
