Anzano del Parco
Hi everyone, today we will talk about Anzano del Parco, a town of about 1800 inhabitants located in the province of Como, in Lombardy.
Origins of the name
The toponym Anzano could have Latin origins, deriving from "Antianus", which in turn would derive from a proper name, Antius. However, there are theories according to which Anzano would have a pre-Indo-European origin, like other toponyms in the area. The addition "del Parco" refers to the large park of Villa Carcano.
History
Anzano del Parco has an ancient history, as it was a settlement of the populations of the Golasecca culture, and subsequently a Roman garrison. During the archaeological excavations in the park of Villa Carcano and Villa del Soldo, artifacts of particular historical interest were found, such as two coins, one Roman of 221 BC and the other imitating the emidramma of Massalia.
During the period of the Milanese Signoria, Anzano was part of the pieve of Incino and was mentioned in the Statutes of the waters and roads of the Milan countryside. In the Visconti era, it was granted to the condottiero Facino Cane, and then passed to the counts Dal Verme and, in the sixteenth century, became a fiefdom confirmed by Charles V. The Dal Verme were succeeded by Count Claudio Giussani who gave it to his daughter Paola when she married Carlo Carcano, the last lord of the fiefdom.
With the Austrian domination and the French Revolution, feudal rights and ancient territorial divisions were abolished.
The historic center
Today, the historic center of Anzano del Parco is a charming village that caps a modest moraine hill. Here you will find the parish church, the Carcano palace, and buildings that once surrounded a castle, of which the entrance arch remains, with obvious grooves that would betray the existence of an ancient drawbridge.

The territory of Anzano del Parco is characterized by magnificent green hills, ideal for walks and outdoor excursions. It is part of the regional park of the Lambro Valley and is located along the Como-Bergamo state road, just below Alzate Brianza and about a dozen kilometers from Como. In addition, golf enthusiasts can have fun at the nearby Monticello Golf Club.
