The town is surrounded by three mountain ranges: to the northeast is Monte Giano (1820 m), on which you can admire the word "DUCE" formed by pine trees, created to honor Italian Fascism. To the south is Monte Nuria (1888 m), possibly of Arab origin, which means "light". To the north, instead, is Monte Elefante (2089 m).

The town is crossed by the Velino River, the largest tributary of the Nera River, at the entrance to the Velino Gorges.
