Annone di Brianza

A corner of Lombardy: Annone di Brianza

Welcome to Annone di Brianza, a small town with a big history in the beautiful region of Lombardy. Located between the state road 36 of Lake Como and Spluga and Oggiono, Annone di Brianza overlooks the pre-alpine Lake of Annone, in Upper Brianza.

History: from prehistoric times to the Annoni nobility

Annone di Brianza boasts an ancient history dating back to prehistoric times. During this phase of development, the Polada culture had a strong impact on the area around Lake Annone. One of the earliest records of the settlement dates back to 880, where the town is described as a fortified village. In the Middle Ages, Annone was part of the county of Martesana before becoming part of the parish of Oggiono. The Annoni family, originally from the area, were the lords of the time.

Symbols: municipal coat of arms and banner

The municipal coat of arms consists of a shield of the Annoni family in the upper part while the lower part shows Lake Annone with the background of the Lecco mountains. The banner, on the other hand, is a split drapery of blue and red.

Among the treasures of Annone di Brianza, the Oratory of San Giorgio stands out, a place of worship dating back to 1481. Inside the parish house, you can admire a 16th-century Flemish school polyptych and a contemporary painting depicting an encounter between Jesus and his mother.

In addition to the Oratory of San Giorgio, Annone di Brianza has a series of wonderful historic villas including Villa Annoni Cabella, Villa Caillard, Villa Carena Bondioli, Villa Carenni and Villa Gatti.
