History

Turin has an ancient history of over two thousand years. It was founded by the Taurini around the 3rd century BC and became a Roman colony in the first half of the 1st century BC. After various periods of domination, Turin became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy in 1563. In 1720 it became the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia and was the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1865.

Economy

Turin is a very important city from an economic point of view. It is the country's third-largest industrial production complex and is part of the Italian industrial triangle along with Milan and Genoa. It is the hub of the Italian automotive industry, space sector, publishing, cinema, and industrial design. Turin is also known for the production of food products such as vermouth, breadsticks, and Gianduiotti.

Culture

Turin is a city rich in culture and history. Within the city's territory, there are several areas protected by the UNESCO, including some palaces and zones belonging to the circuit of the Savoy Residences in Piedmont (World Heritage Site) and the Po hills area (Biosphere Reserve). Turin is also one of the main university, art, and tourism centers in Italy.

Turin has been the venue for important international events such as the International Exhibition of 1911, the XX Winter Olympic Games in 2006, the ATP Finals 2021 (and until at least 2025), and the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
