Discovering Marina di Andrano, the hidden gem of Salento
Welcome to Marina di Andrano, a coastal town located in the province of Lecce, famous for its stunning beaches and breathtaking sea views. In this article, we will take you on a journey to discover the wonders of this hidden gem of Salento.
Features and points of interest
Marina di Andrano stretches for about 3 kilometers of mainly rocky coastline on the Adriatic side of the Salento peninsula. Divided into two areas, "Torre" and "Botte", the town is known for its "Lungomare delle Agavi", a path along the sea that offers a relaxing walk among lush Agave plants. The Torre area has two particularly attractive bathing spots: the beach of "Grotta Verde" and the beach known as "Fiume", used in the past as a small port for boats. The Botte area, on the other hand, includes the eponymous "Botte" beach, as well as the characteristic harbor carved into the rock to protect small fishing and pleasure boats.
During the summer season, Marina di Andrano is particularly frequented by Italian and foreign tourists from nearby tourist resorts such as Castro, Santa Cesarea Terme and Tricase Porto. In recent years, it has also become a point of reference for differently-abled visitors, with a beach in the Botte area specifically designed to welcome them. Of considerable landscape importance is the "Belvedere Madonna del Lattarico", from which you can enjoy a wide panorama of the coast and where you can visit a Byzantine crypt and a church in the shape of a ship's keel, as well as numerous "paiare".
Torre Porto di Ripa
In the area, there is a 15th-century watchtower called Torre Porto di Ripa or Torre di Andrano. Only the part that was once the cistern remains. It visually communicated with the Capo Lupo Tower to the north and the Sasso Tower to the south.
