Hello everyone! Today I would like to introduce you to Alzano Scrivia, a picturesque Italian town located in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont. With a population of only 366 inhabitants, Alzano Scrivia is a quiet and welcoming village, nestled in the alluvial plain a few kilometers from the confluence between the Po and the Scrivia rivers. In this summary, I will talk a little about the history and places of interest of this beautiful place.

Physical geography: landscapes and territory

Alzano Scrivia is located on the borders between Tortona and Lomellina, about 35 km from Alessandria. Thanks to the alluvial plain, the territory is particularly fertile and rich in water, producing quality cereals, vegetables, and fruits. In addition, the town boasts the title of flattest municipality in Italy, with a maximum difference in elevation of only 1 meter above sea level.

History: between castles and river floods

The village of Alzano Scrivia has an ancient and fascinating history. Until 1925, the town was called simply Alzano. Near the Parish Church dedicated to Mary Magdalene, there was an ancient fortified castle belonging to the Torti family, which gave its name to the nearby town. The castle was conquered and destroyed by the Spanish in the 18th century, and today there is no trace of it. In the past, river floods have often changed the shape of the territory, and this conflicting relationship with water is reflected in the names of the towns in the area. Indeed, not far from Alzano Scrivia, there are Guazzora, Alluvioni Cambiò, and Isola Sant'Antonio.

However, cultural activities and initiatives are not lacking, such as the patron saint festival in honor of the Madonna, which takes place every year on the fourth Sunday of September, with the traditional livestock and merchandise fair held on the following Monday.
