History

The town has medieval origins and was a fiefdom of the noble Liviani family of Lombard origin. One of the most famous characters related to Alviano is the mercenary leader Bartolomeo d'Alviano, born in the Liviani family. The history of the town is also told in the Museum inside the Castle, which exhibits tools and images from past eras.

Monuments and places of interest

Alviano is rich in monuments and places of interest. The Lake Alviano is a WWF nature reserve where it is possible to admire local flora and fauna. The Castle of Alviano Doria Landi Pamphili, built in the fifteenth century, has a large courtyard and a chapel with seventeenth-century frescoes.
