San Vito

Welcome to San Vito: a small hamlet in the heart of the plain

Hello everyone, today I will tell you about San Vito, a hamlet of the municipality of Altivole, located in the province of Treviso, in the plain south of Asolo. This area is the ideal place for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and spend some time in nature and tranquility.

Let's discover the physical geography of San Vito

San Vito is strategically located west of the capital Altivole and north of Riese Pio X, surrounded by vast countryside that makes it the perfect place for a walk or bike ride. The inhabited center is clustered at the intersection of Via Asolana and Via Castellana, which connect Asolo and Riese Pio X in a north-south direction, and Via Rosina and Via Brioni, which connect Spineda and Altivole in a west-east direction.

San Vito: charming village among countryside and monuments.

The history of San Vito

San Vito has been inhabited since Roman times and was once called "San Vito d’Asolo" instead of San Vito di Altivole. However, the name should not be misleading: in the past, Asolo was so important that any nearby village was associated with Asolo, such as Paderno d'Asolo and San Vito d'Asolo.

Let's discover the monuments and points of interest in San Vito

The parish church

The parish church of San Vito is a masterpiece of neoclassical architecture. The imposing tripartite facade is characterized by long Corinthian columns, above which rests a large dentate tympanum. Three statues of saints are placed on the apexes.

The Tomba Brion

One of the greatest Italian architects of the 20th century, Carlo Scarpa, is associated with San Vito for having created one of his major works: the Tomba Brion, attached to the village cemetery. This monument of great artistic importance is suggestive thanks to the alchemy of water, grass cover, and tomb walls. The same architect is buried here.

Villa Giauna Bernardo

Another attraction of San Vito is Villa Giauna Bernardo, an important Venetian villa complex located west of the parish church, beyond Via Asolana. The oldest parts of the villa date back to the 17th century, but in the following centuries they have been enlarged and remodeled.

Conclusions

San Vito is a small hamlet with a lot to offer, which will make you feel as if you are far from the chaos of the city. If you are in the area, I recommend visiting the monuments and places of interest of this charming village, and maybe stopping to take a walk through the countryside. I hope this article has been helpful in getting to know San Vito better and appreciating its beauties.
