Alseno

Alseno: a village on the Via Emilia

Hello everyone! Today I'm taking you to discover Alseno, a village of 4677 inhabitants in the province of Piacenza in Emilia-Romagna. Located at the foot of the Apennines, on the left bank of the Rio Grattarolo, Alseno is part of the beautiful Val d'Arda and is crossed by the Via Emilia, which connects the city of Parma to that of Piacenza.

The history of Alseno

The village of Alseno has Roman origins, when it was known as "Senum", probably due to its sinuous location, from which the current name was then derived. During the Roman era, the famous Via Emilia passed through here, which connected Rimini to Piacenza and then continued to Milan.

During the Middle Ages, Alseno was an ancient fiefdom of the Landi family, as evidenced by the building called Palazzo Landi, now the seat of a nursery school. In addition, on the Via Romea or Francigena, there was a hospital dedicated to Santa Maria Maddalena, called dell'Ongina.
