Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Almenno San Bartolomeo, a beautiful municipality located in the province of Bergamo in Lombardy. With its 6,567 inhabitants, Almenno is part of the Valle Imagna mountain community and has been awarded the Orange Flag by the Touring Club Italiano for its strong tourist and cultural appeal.
Physical geography
The territory of Almenno San Bartolomeo is truly interesting, linking the countryside to the south border and the mountainous area to the north. The famous Rotonda di San Tomè is located in the Romanesque Agro to the east, while to the west there is the Bergamo Golf Club "l'Albenza", shared with Barzana and Palazzago. In the north, you can admire Mount Linzone, which stands proudly at 1,392 meters above sea level. Almenno is a predominantly hilly municipality, with an altitude that varies from 225 meters in the Campino hamlet to 900 meters in the Pradone district.
If you are nature and green space lovers, then Almenno San Bartolomeo is the place for you. The Roccolone is a hillside park covering almost 30 hectares, crossed by numerous cycle and pedestrian paths, dedicated to those who practice mountain biking and trekking. The vegetation is characterized by oaks, birches, chestnuts, brambles, and other native species, and you might have the opportunity to spot squirrels, hares and various birds. Also, don't miss the Oasis Park on the Brembo, a wonderful place connected to the "Brembobeach", a beach on the river.
Speaking of rivers, the Brembo is the main one that marks the eastern border of the municipality, but there are other minor watercourses such as the Tornago, the Lesina and the Borgogna. And if you're looking for mountain hikes, I recommend taking the Italian Alpine Club 571 trail, also known as the "Periplo della Valle Imagna", which passes through the Pradone district.
History
Now let's move on to the history of Almenno San Bartolomeo. The municipality of Lemine already existed in the 12th century, but was officially recognized with a transaction in 1220 with the cession of feudal rights to the municipality by the Diocese of Bergamo. In the 14th century, however, the municipality underwent a phase of decline that led it to split into the two municipalities of Almenno Inferiore and Almenno Superiore.
