Welcome to Capilungo, the seaside resort of the province of Lecce!

Located between Posto Rosso and Torre Suda, Capilungo is an exclusively tourist destination situated on the Ionian Sea, about 4 km away from the town of Alliste. Since 1964, Capilungo has been considered a geographical hamlet thanks to the concession of the President of the Republic Giovanni Gronchi, upon the request of the citizens of Alliste and Racale residing here.

The coast of Capilungo offers a low rocky coastline that is easily accessible and full of coves. The area is divided into two parts, "Capilungo Valeriano" and "Capilungo Le Campore".

The history of Capilungo

Until the second half of the 1800s, Capilungo was a demesne locality. Later, during the Demesne Issue of Alliste, it was occupied by Gaetano Nenni, originally from Tuglie and married in Alliste, or by his father-in-law, belonging to the Colaci family.

In Capilungo, the main monument is the Church of Madonna della Luce.

The month of August is particularly festive in Capilungo thanks to the celebration of the Madonna della Luce Feast. It is an important event for the local community, which celebrates the patron saint with processions and religious ceremonies.
