Territory

Alliste is famous for the mild Salento Serre that characterize it and make it a unique place in the world. These Mesozoic Limestone formations reach a maximum altitude of 86 m above sea level in the Madonna dell'Alto area. The coast, on the other hand, presents a raw and wild beauty, a place that enchants you at first sight. The plain, formed by Salento Limestone and Gallipoli formations, composed of Sand Clay, depends on the rock substrate that characterizes it. Among the types of present terrain, the most widespread are clayey soils and red soils, while brown soils and tuffaceous soils occupy a smaller quantity.

Alliste borders Racale to the north, Ugento to the east and south, and the Ionian Sea to the west. The Mediterranean climate makes these areas suitable to enjoy a good temperature in both winter and summer. According to statistics, the average temperature in January is around +9°C, while that of August is around +25.1°C. The average annual precipitation is around 676 mm, and the climate has poor ventilation due to the Salento Serre, which protects the region.
