Alfonsine
Welcome to Alfonsine, the city of fruit and wine
Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Alfonsine, an Italian municipality with approximately 11,498 inhabitants located in the province of Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna. This city is famous for its agriculture, especially for fruit-growing and winemaking. Let's discover more about this wonderful location!
Physical Geography
Alfonsine is located in the low Romagna and is crossed by the Senio river. It is easily reachable thanks to the State Road 16 Adriatica. The surrounding territory is very fertile and lends itself to the cultivation of high-quality fruits and vegetables. The climate is quite variable, with a mix of two main characteristics: the Mediterranean climate and the Continental climate. During summer, the weather can be decidedly muggy, with temperatures that reach 38 degrees and beyond. Fortunately, there are also thunderstorms that manage to clean the air and cool the atmosphere. In autumn, instead, rainfall is more frequent, but temperatures remain mild.
Monuments and Places of Interest
Despite Alfonsine having undergone several devastations during World War II, there are still some monuments and places of interest worth visiting. Among these, I remember the Oratory of S. Vincenzo Ferrari, dating back to the mid-eighteenth century, where you can still admire a painting of Mary, attributed to the Ugoni-Longhi school. In Vincenzo Monti square, there is the Church of the Sacred Heart, built in place of the ancient parish church. Also, the parish church of Santa Maria, in Corso della Repubblica, is very recent and worth a visit. But the most famous church is the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Bosco, located a few kilometers from the town center. This church is a very ancient and important place of worship for the Alfonsine community.
The Legend of Madonna del Bosco
The legend tells that in 1714, a lumberjack died tragically while cutting down a tree. In his honor, a votive ceramic image was hung on a tree near the site of the incident. This gesture attracted the attention of the locals, who began to venerate the votive image. In the following decades, the place became a destination for numerous pilgrimages. In the course of the nineteenth century, the building deteriorated considerably, until the Alfonsine people decided to build a new sanctuary. The new church was built between 1928-29 and since then has become a very important place of prayer for the community.

In conclusion, Alfonsine is a beautiful location where nature and spirituality meet in a perfect mix.
