Alezio
Introduction

The origins of Alezio's name are uncertain. It is thought to have been connected to the homonymous city of Acarnania, but there is no historical evidence to support this. During the Roman Empire, the name of the city became ''Aletium''.
History

Alezio has ancient origins and was probably founded by the Messapians or by other Dauno-Japigian populations. The urban layout of the city is thought to have had significant Greek cultural influences, as evidenced by the discovery of Greek artifacts.
