Cantalupo: hidden gem of Piedmont

History

The first news about Cantalupo dates back to ancient times. The village was fortified, which were demolished already in the nineteenth century following changes in warfare technology. Around the mid-nineteenth century, Cantalupo had about a thousand inhabitants.

An interesting building that still stands at the entrance of the village is the nineteenth-century "Oil Factory," also known as the "Morteo and Gianolio." This establishment produced oils and fats of different origins, which were transformed into soaps and similar products of the highest quality. Today, we can still admire the chimneys and several factory buildings, partly renovated and used for different purposes.

Monuments

The church of Cantalupo is an interesting architectural work from the early nineteenth century. The structure is located in the center of the village and is easily accessible on foot. The peculiarity of this church lies in the fact that it was built at a time when Baroque art was giving way to neoclassical art.

The Luigi Lama nursery, recently restored, is located in via Acqui Terme and is still heavily frequented. This structure represents a place where children can play and socialize peacefully and protected.
