Abbazia
Abbey: a Butterfly Fraction
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Abbey, a fraction of the municipality of Albino, in the province of Bergamo. If you are looking for a quiet place immersed in nature, then this is definitely the right place for you.
Territory
Abbey is located on the left bank of the Valle del Lujo, a green and lush valley that extends along the val Seriana. The landscape here is completely mountainous and hilly, with numerous districts that still preserve their rural tradition. In the small center in the valley floor, you can find the Abbey of San Benedetto, a real sight for sore eyes.
In recent years, tourism and residential construction have grown significantly, but the fraction has managed to maintain its natural beauty. Along the S.P.39, which connects Albino with the val Cavallina, you can observe the entire valley of Lujo and enjoy breathtaking landscapes.
Limits and Borders
The borders of the fraction coincide with those of the "Beni dell'Abbazia di San Benedetto" during the medieval era. To the south, Abbey borders with the val Cavallina, to the west with Fiobbio, and to the north with Vall'Alta. There are two other fractions, Dossello and Casale to the north and east, which are located at a higher position on the slopes of the mountains. However, these two fractions were part of the monastery's possessions.
History of Abbey
The origin of the fraction dates back to about 210 million years ago, when some mollusk fossils were found in the area. However, Abbey's history as we know it today began with the foundation of the Abbey of San Benedetto by a group of monks in 1136.
Previously, there were no inhabited centers in the area. The valley of Lujo, at that time, was an area completely covered by forests. The monks began to make the land cultivable and to attract inhabitants from nearby cities. Thus, the first small inhabited nuclei were formed from the second half of the 12th century.
Among the first inhabited nuclei we find the Gatti and Plazza farms, which are still existing and represent the locations they are found in.
Over the centuries, the events of Abbey were closely linked to those of the abbey, remaining a property of the Apostolic See in the domains of the Republic of Venice.
Conclusions
In conclusion, Abbey is a small fraction immersed in history and nature. The landscapes here are breathtaking and the fraction has maintained its natural beauty even with the growth of tourism and residential construction. If you are looking for a quiet place to disconnect from the city and regenerate, then Abbey is definitely the right place.
