Albese con Cassano

Welcome to Albese con Cassano!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Albese con Cassano, a municipality in the province of Como in Lombardy, where I have spent a lot of time and which I know very well.

Geographic location

Albese con Cassano is located in the High Brianza area, at the foot of the Como Prealps, within the Mountain Community of the Larian Triangle. The town is located on a morainic terrain, one of the many that formed after the melting of the Abduano glacier. The territory of Albese con Cassano is characterized by hills, woods, small watercourses and routes, which create a very suggestive natural environment.

History

The history of Albese con Cassano is very ancient and fascinating. In Roman times, in fact, the town was crossed by the Via Regina, an important road that connected Cremona with Chiavenna, passing through Milan. In 2008, the 80th anniversary of the merger of the two municipalities, Albese and Cassano Albese, which took place in 1928, was celebrated. In the past, Albese was called Albesio and was a fief of the Dal Verme counts until 1441, and then of the Carpani until 1777, when the family became extinct. In 1469, Albesio was united with Cassano Albese, but then returned to being an autonomous municipality.

With the advent of the Cisalpine Republic, Albese was first included in the Department of Lario, then in the department of Olona, and then returned to the district I of Como of the reconstituted Department of Lario. With the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy, Albesio was included in the VII district of Erba as a third-class municipality, and then aggregated to the municipality of Albavilla. In 1859, with the annexation of the Lombard provinces to the Kingdom of Sardinia, Albesio took the name Albese and was included in the XI district of Erba. In 1924, Albese was included in the Como district of the province of Como. Finally, in 1928, the municipality of Albese merged with Cassano Albese to form the municipality of Albese con Cassano.
