In the 9th century, the King of Italy, Lothair I, confirmed the rights of the Bobbio monks over the territory and the Court of Torresana, mentioned in the ''Adbreviationes'' of abbot Wala in 833 among the possessions of the monastery.

Symbols and honors

The coat of arms and flag of Albareto were granted by a decree of the President of the Republic on August 12, 1957, while the flag was granted by DPR on September 23, 2015. The municipality's flag comes from the coat of arms of the Fieschi di Lavagna family, lords of Albareto until 1574. The municipality of Albareto is among the cities decorated for military valor during the liberation war, awarded on February 25, 1999, the Silver Medal of Military Valor for the sacrifices of its populations and for activity in the partisan struggle during World War II.
