Mussotto d'Alba: a small Piedmontese hamlet
Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a very nice and charming place in Piedmont: Mussotto d'Alba, a small hamlet located in the province of Cuneo. With its 2176 inhabitants (3500 considering the urban agglomeration), Mussotto is a truly quiet and characteristic place, which is part of the territory of the municipality of Alba.
The history of Mussotto
Like many Italian places, Mussotto also has a long history. Scholars have discovered that a river used to flow here, as shown by the remains of an ancient river port. It is not known exactly what the village was called in the past, but it is known that the name Mussotto derives from a noble family called Musso.
The natural environment of Mussotto
The hamlet is located on the left bank of the Tanaro river and is crossed by the Riddone stream. The area around Mussotto is characterized by hills and vineyards, which create a truly suggestive landscape. This small village is also close to other hamlets, such as Guarene and Racca.
Activities in Mussotto
Despite its small size, Mussotto is home to numerous activities and services. Among the main ones are the Fornace Casetta, active since 1876, some carpentry shops, the Big Store shopping center, car dealerships, the historic company Relanghe (which produces the famous nougat), the Prunotto Mariangela farm (producer of jams and specialties in jars), the Mollo building warehouse and some other shops, such as Albalux Lampadari. In autumn, you can also participate in the grape harvest and hazelnut picking.
Social life in Mussotto
The Parish of Mussotto counts about 2000 inhabitants and is the main center of aggregation for the locals. In 2009, a new church was inaugurated, replacing the old one, now transformed into a sanctuary where the Mascioni pipe organ can be admired and classical and choral music concerts are held thanks to the Intonando choral association. The new parish, together with the Acli circle and the G.S. Koala sports group, represents the hub of social life in Mussotto.
Curiosities about Mussotto
There are some interesting curiosities related to Mussotto. For example, here you can find the Eugenio Casetta Furnace, active since as far back as 1876. Moreover, the village cemetery was built under the aegis of Eugenio Casetta, who was also the manager of the furnace. In Corso Bra, you can also admire a centuries-old Platanus tree, while in the square of the old sanctuary, you can find the Casa Opere Parrocchiali, built in the 1960s with the contribution of all the parishioners. Finally, Mussotto is divided into four hamlets: Prarolo (Sanctuary area), Sarda (Corso Bra), Aurora (Canale course up to the new church area) and Borghino (area on the homonymous hill west of the hamlet).
