In the 7th century BC, a temple dedicated to Artemis was built on the nearby promontory that took the name of "Petra". In Roman times, instead, the maritime village of Ercula developed. Not only that: in the Monte Tresino area, several stone anchors, wine amphorae, and oil lamps from the Roman era have been recovered.
