Casalcassinese

Welcome to Casalcassinese!

Hello everyone, today I want to talk to you about Casalcassinese, a small hamlet in the municipality of Acquafondata in the province of Frosinone. If you love nature, this is the right place: the village extends in a green valley at the foot of Monte Monna Casale, at an altitude of 750 meters, not far from the border with Molise. Here you can breathe fresh air and enjoy the breathtaking landscape.

The history of Casalcassinese

The history of this village is very ancient. There is a document from the year 787 that mentions Casalcassinese in relation to the land divisions of the count of Venafro. Later, around 1100, the village passed to the Benedictine territories together with Acquafondata and Viticuso. This happened because Pandolfo and Odoaldo were infesting the territories contiguous to the possessions of Montecassino and the abbot gathered the army and forced the two to cede him Casale and Acquafondata.

From that moment on, Casalcassinese was part of the land of St. Benedict and underwent the historical changes of the time, until the XVIII century under the Bourbons and then under French rule (1800). After the Unification of Italy, the village underwent the bitter experience of banditry. The XX century was marked by the Great War and the tragic events of World War II, which did not spare these places because of their proximity to the Gustav Line.

Casalcassinese: nature, history and tradition

Traditional events

Despite its troubled history, Casalcassinese still hosts the traditional patron saint festivals in honor of St. Anthony of Padua on August 17th and 18th. In addition, every year, you can participate in the macaroni festival, which always takes place in the same month. These are just some of the events that await you in this wonderful village.

Places to visit

Among the most interesting monuments in Casalcassinese, I recommend the Fontana Vecchia, built by the Benedictine monks, and the walls of the palace dating back to the year 1000. History enthusiasts can also visit the Macere area, where the ruins of the old village are visible. Casalcassinese is small, but full of surprises.

Conclusions

In conclusion, if you are looking for a quiet place to spend a holiday immersed in nature and history, Casalcassinese is the right choice. Here you can breathe the unique atmosphere of this small village, which has seen centuries of history and which today is just waiting for you to show you its beauty. Don't miss the opportunity to visit this enchanting place!
